COVID-19 Vaccination: Partnership in Action

One of the early successes to come from the FLA OHT are the partnerships and collaborations that have been developed through the work of building our vision for stronger, more connected health care.

These collaborations have recently demonstrated what can be accomplished when we work together as many of our partners came together to support the delivery of COVID-19 vaccinations, led by KFL&A Public Health. Recently, the KFL&A region was recognized for having the highest rate per capita of dose administration, the highest rate in the province of third dose coverage for individuals 70 years and over, and the highest rate of first dose coverage for those aged five to 11 years old.

Over the past few weeks it has become common to hear of drive-through clinics, community pop-ups and other vaccination opportunities that help meet our community where they are and these have all been the result of our partners  working together with KFL&A Public Health to deliver vaccines as efficiently as possible.

An example of this has been the success of the drive-through clinics held at St. Lawrence College, spearheaded by Dr. Elaine Ma in partnership with KFL&A Public Health, all partners within our OHT. As a result of their collaboration and the countless community member volunteers who gave their time to help run the clinics, thousands of vaccinations have been distributed.

Additional examples include the collaborative efforts of municipalities with giving space and staff, primary care practices, community health centres and agencies such as the Morningstar Mission who have partnered to arrange vaccination clinics in more rural locations and to reach those who find it difficult to access other clinics.

We would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to all of our partners and teams for the work they are doing to help make vaccinations as accessible as possible to our community. Despite the challenging times we find ourselves in with COVID-19, your determination and hard work is helping to shed a light of hope towards a healthier future.
